A guided collection of shadow work journaling prompts to help you explore your unconscious patterns, heal old wounds, and grow emotionally.
The foundational shadow work exercise  projection as a mirror.
Write about three qualities you strongly dislike in other people. For each one, ask yourself: When have I exhibited this exact quality? Be honest. What situations trigger this reaction in you? What does this dislike reveal about the parts of yourself you refuse to acknowledge? Write without judgment  this is between you and the page.
Explores the gap between persona and authentic self.
Describe the version of yourself that you show to the world. What do you want people to see? Now describe the version of yourself that only you (or very few people) know. What are you hiding? Why? When did you first start wearing this mask? What would happen if you took it off  what are you afraid would happen?
Traces current patterns back to their origin.
Think of a moment from childhood that still bothers you when you回忆it. What happened? How did you feel in that moment  not how you think you should have felt, but what you actually felt? What belief about yourself or the world did you form because of that experience? How does that belief still show up in your adult life today?
Transforms abstract fears into concrete, manageable insights.
List your top 5 fears  not phobias, but deep existential fears (fear of rejection, failure, abandonment, being seen as incompetent, losing control). For each one, trace it back: When did this fear start? What is the worst-case scenario you imagine? What would you do if that scenario actually happened? What does surviving it tell you about yourself?
Reveals unconscious relational dynamics through pattern recognition.
Describe your three most significant relationships (romantic, friendship, or family). What pattern repeats across all of them? Do you always end up as the caretaker? The one who leaves? The one who is never enough? What role do you play, and what need does that role fulfill for you? What would it feel like to break the pattern?
Uses anger as a doorway to deeper emotional truth.
What makes you disproportionately angry  the kind of anger that surprises even you? Dig into it. What is the anger protecting? Underneath rage, there is usually hurt, fear, or grief. What is the unmet need beneath your anger? When was the first time you felt this exact type of anger? Write a letter to that version of yourself.
Exposes the hidden costs of the comfort zone.
Describe a goal you have repeatedly failed to achieve despite wanting it. What do you do right before you self-sabotage? What excuse do you give yourself? What are you really afraid of achieving this goal  what would change, and why does that scare you? What would it mean about you if you actually succeeded?
